Blog post #2

Advertisements and media campaigns are effective because they are focused on a certain target audience so they are effective on that target audience. They put messages where you arent expecting them for example i saw an advertisement for Boost Mobile on the sidewalk. That type of ad is called gorilla. Advertisements convince you into being interested in a product or service by being creative and showing the product being used in a inviting environment. Brands logos on products such as clothes are advertisements. In saying so us as human in these times are essentially walking advertisements. One advertisement that catches my eye is the Snuggie commercials. In the Snuggie ads the people make the snuggie look so convenient and comfortable and the people are so happy.

1. What have you learned from the last two MTN presentations?

The first time Alex and John came and presented we learned about media literacy by disecting PSAs as a class. The second day they came we learned about the pre-production process, synopsis, and storyboard. In the storyboard we had to consider the type of shot we would use.

2. What clip do you plan on using for your visual communications critique?

I plan on using a clip from an anti-drug campaign. The anti-drug campaigns tend to have interesting plots and shots and also alot of metaphors and hidden meanings. So with saying so it would be very intersting to read and interpret these PSAs.

3. Why is media literacy important?

Media literacy is important because you need to keep the watchers always on their feet trying to figure out what is going on in situations. So they strive to find the answer by paying more attention.
